Luciano Spalletti Extends Juventus Contract As Weston McKennie Praises His Leadership Ahead Of Atalanta Clash
Luciano Spalletti has committed to Juventus until 2028, signing a new two-year deal before Saturday’s crucial Serie A clash with Atalanta, as both clubs chase Champions League qualification for the 2025-26 season and look to gain an advantage in a tight battle near the top.
Juventus enter the weekend in fifth place, one point behind fourth-placed Como. Atalanta sit four points further back, yet remain firmly in contention for a top-four finish. The meeting at New Balance Arena therefore carries major weight for both sides, with direct rivals facing off in a high-pressure situation.

Spalletti originally arrived at Juventus last October on a short-term agreement, and early results led to debate about long-term plans. The club have now removed any doubt by extending the contract, while Weston McKennie has publicly backed the decision and described working under Spalletti in glowing terms.
"I get on very well with him, McKennie said, as quoted by AlfredoPedulla. I think every player has different needs and there are different expectations on each of us. Every time I see the manager, he gives me a sense of security. When he tells you off, he never does it in a harsh way, he always does it to make you improve. Some coaches humiliate you, but Spalletti's personality makes you think that you need to get better. He commands your attention every time he speaks, he has experience and is wise. He is the best coach I have had in my career. The numbers say it and the way he manages the group makes him an outstanding coach."
While Juventus secure stability on the bench, Atalanta arrive in strong domestic form. Raffaele Palladino’s team have put together back-to-back league victories and are unbeaten in four Serie A outings, a sequence that includes Monday’s 3-0 win over Lecce which underlined their attacking threat and defensive organisation.
Palladino welcomed that display but underlined that Atalanta still face a demanding run. "We adjusted as time went on and did well to attack the space, he said. I'm satisfied with the performance, another clean sheet also gives confidence to the defence. It was the first of eight finals, now we must continue our climb up that mountain."
Juventus vs Atalanta: Key players to watch in Serie A clash
Giacomo Raspadori stands out as a major danger for Atalanta against Juventus. The forward has already scored four Serie A goals versus Juventus, more than against any opponent except Genoa, with five. Raspadori has contributed three goal involvements in his last five league matches, with two goals and one assist.
Raspadori also scored in the win over Lecce and is chasing consecutive league goals for the first time since May 2025. On that occasion, Raspadori found the net in successive fixtures against Lecce and Genoa, highlighting the striker’s potential to build momentum once confidence and rhythm return.
Juventus can look to Kenan Yildiz for a decisive contribution. Yildiz has 19 Serie A goals and 10 assists, and could become only the third player involved in at least 30 goals before turning 21 since the league reverted to 20 teams in 2004-05, underlining the scale of current output.
The previous players to hit that mark were Alexandre Pato with 46 goal involvements and Domenico Berardi with 47. Mario Balotelli finished just short on 29 before turning 21. Yildiz therefore has the chance to join a select group by adding to the tally against Atalanta in this contest.
Juventus vs Atalanta: Historic Serie A trends and Opta prediction
Recent Serie A meetings between these clubs have been tight. Six of the last eight league encounters ended level, with one win each in that span. Across the previous 10 seasons, starting from 2016-17, no opponent has drawn more often with Juventus than Atalanta, with 12 league stalemates recorded.
The tendency towards balanced contests is also clear when both teams sit high in the table. Four of the last five Serie A matches between Juventus and Atalanta, when each began in the top seven, ended as draws. The only exception was Atalanta’s 4-0 away victory on 9 March 2025.
Despite those patterns, Opta’s supercomputer gives a slight edge to Juventus. The model assigns a 32.4% win probability to Juventus and the same 32.4% to Atalanta, with the draw rated at 27.2%. The numbers reflect how evenly matched the sides appear heading into the New Balance Arena showdown.
Palladino’s record adds further intrigue. Atalanta have the highest points-per-game average under Palladino in the Serie A three-points-for-a-win era, at 2.00 from 12 wins, four draws and four defeats. Atalanta are also chasing a third straight league victory for the third separate spell with Palladino in charge.
Palladino previously played for Juventus and has already enjoyed success as a coach against the club. There have been three Serie A wins over Juventus from the touchline, including Palladino’s first top-flight victory, a 1-0 success with Monza on 18 September 2022. Only Genoa, Hellas Verona and Cagliari have provided more managerial wins.
With Juventus seeking Champions League qualification, Atalanta aiming to extend a positive run, Spalletti newly secure and Palladino in strong form, the match carries major weight near the Serie A summit, and the outcome could heavily influence how both teams approach the final weeks of the campaign.
