East Bengal's effort to sign Iago Flaque before the Kalinga Super Cup 2024 hits a roadblock early on as the Spanish forward has rejected the one-month deal offered to him ahead of their group opener against Hyderabad FC on Tuesday (January 9), reported AajTak Bangla.
As per reports, East Bengal have been approaching the winter transfer window with caution following Spanish striker Javier Siverio's failure to click at the club in the ongoing ISL 2023-24 campaign. Iago Falque was offered the one-month deal with the possibility of a full contract if he impresses in the Kalinga Super Cup 2024.

Out-of-favour Javier Siverio is also expected to be kept in the squad during the Kalinga Super Cup 2024 with clubs needing a bigger pool of foreign players as the competition allows six overseas players in the line-up. However, Siverio is unlikely to be registered for the second phase of ISL 2023-24 if he fails to deliver again.
The dynamics may change now as Iago Falque is unlikely to join the club now as he understandably wants a longer contract. East Bengal are fast running out of time to register a new player for the Kalinga Super Cup 2024, which means any further delay in signing Iago Falque will lead to a crisis for the club at the tournament as far as goals are concerned.
AajTak Bangla also reported that Javier Siverio is being offered to his former club Hyderbad FC in a swap deal for their star right-back Nikhil Poojari.
East Bengal have been without a quality player in the position since Harmanjot Khabra got injured in December. Forward VP Suhair has also been offered in the swap deal. Nikhil Poojari is currently away on national duty at the AFC Asian Cup 2024 in Qatar.
East Bengal will also face Hyderbad FC in their opening Group A match of the Kalinga Super Cup 2024 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. The team has already left for Bhubaneswar on Monday afternoon with Jesin TK and Tanmoy Das included in the squad from the reserve team.
