Kalinga Super Cup 2024: East Bengal Likely To Sign Former AS Roma Forward Iago Falque

East Bengal may make a major signing before playing their first match in the Kalinga Super Cup 2024 as Spanish striker Iago Falque, who played for AS Roma for two seasons, may add to the side's attack strength in the winter transfer window.

Indian Express Bangla has reported that East Bengal are going to sign 34-year-old Iago Falque soon and register him for the Kalinga Super Cup for the time being while misfiring Spanish forward Javier Siverio Toro's time at the club seems limited.

Iago Falque played for both Real Madrid and Barcelona during his youth career before making professional senior appearances for some of the big clubs in Europe such as Tottenham Hotspurs, Roma, Genoa, Torino in the top tier football. The forward had his best time in Juventus' derby rivals Torino, for whom Falque scored 30 goals in over 102 matches.

Before moving to Colombia to play for top-tier club America de Cali last year, Iago Falque also spent time at clubs such as Juventus, Valencia, Villarreal, Southampton and Rayo Vallecano. The Spanish forward never got to represent his national team at the senior level but did finish runners-up at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2007 while also representing Spain at the U-19, U-20, and U-21 levels.

As far as Javier Siverio is concerned, mykhel already shared the piece of news a couple of days ago that the new foreign striker signing and Javier Siverio may share the dressing room during the Kalinga Super Cup but only one of them will play in the second half of the ISL 2023-24 season once the league resumes after the Cup tournament in Bhubaneswar.

Needless to say, only the best-performing striker will be registered for the league campaign. 26-year-old Siverio, who scored goals in the pre-season Durand Cup 2024, failed to find the net during his 10 appearances for East Bengal in the first half of the Indian Super League.

Siverio's failure is also the reason why the club is cautious with the transfer of Iago Falque as they may end up losing a lot of money if the player fails to click at a high-demanding club like East Bengal.
