Kalinga Super Cup: Jamshedpur FC striker Chima Chukwu gives strong warning to East Bengal ahead of semifinal

Jamshedpur FC striker Daniel Chima Chukwu says he won't have any extra pressure as he squares off against former club East Bengal in the Kalinga Super Cup semifinal on Wednesday (January 24).

The Red Miners will take on the Torch Bearers in the semifinal clash in Bhubaneswar. The Nigerian striker missed Jamshedpur's last group stage match due to a suspension but will be available for selection against East Bengal. Incidentally, he played a few matches for East Bengal before joining the Red Miners back in 2022.

In an exclusive interview with MyKhel, Chima confessed that he had an abrupt end to his East Bengal stint, and didn't even want to leave the Kolkata giants.

"In East Bengal, I was treated well. But we were having a tough time which affected our performance in that season. I scored two goals and my intention was not to move. But I had to go to Europe for some personal reasons, and East Bengal couldn't afford to wait for me. They had all the foreigners injured and when I came back, I was not part of the club anymore," Chima Chukwu said.

When asked about if he will have any extra motivation when he faces East Bengal again, the Nigerian striker is quite unfazed and confirms it will just be another match.

"I am not thinking about any revenge or anything. I just want to score goals and win for my team. Scoring goals is my job and that is my sole focus," the steely striker added.

Chima Chukwu has played a huge part in JFC's result this season. He has scored 5 goals in the league and has found the net 3 times in the Super Cup. And East Bengal will have to be wary of their former striker in the semifinal.

It promises to be an intense battle between two in-form teams, and Daniel Chima can play a big part in the outcome of the match. The striker believes if they can continue the way they are performing, they can lift the trophy in Bhubaneswar and rejuvenate their ISL campaign in the second half of the league season.
