Bengaluru, September 13: Arsenal could reportedly be handed the chance to finally land Karim Benzema next summer. Arsene Wenger is a admirer of his fellow Frenchman and a move could happen next summer as per Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid.
The Real Madrid striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates ever since his stint with Ligue 1 giants Lyon. But at that time the French sensation opted to move to La Liga and has become a superstar at Real Madrid over the years.
Benzema has netted 181 times in 371 first-team appearances for Real, and has helped them win 14 trophies. However, reports claim that Real Madrid are likely to see him out next summer as they look forward to bolstering their all-star forward line.
Germany international Timo Werner is being considered as a long-term replacement of the Frenchman.
Spanish media house Don Balon claim Bernabeu chief Florentino Perez was frustrated not to get his way this summer and they indicate he won’t let Zinedine Zidane stop him from signing his own targets in a year’s time.
Perez is apparently on alert following Real’s slow start to the new season, which has seen them struggle to score goals and consequently pick up five points from their opening three games.
And Don Balon say the three forwards on his wish list are RB Leipzeig’s Timo Werner, Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann and Juventus’ Paulo Dybala.
Griezmann is said to be the player Perez likes the most and the fact he has a £91million (€100m) release clause would make getting a deal over the line simpler.
To accommodate a new striker, Real Madrid will be letting Benzema go next summer as per rumours and even Gareth Bale could be cashed in as the Welshman keeps struggling to make much impact.
