Kevin De Bruyne to MLS? Big club ready to match Lionel Messi to offer a lucrative deal

Major League Soccer (MLS) continues its transformation into a premier destination for football's biggest names, with stars like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, Lorenzo Insigne, etc now gracing its pitches.

Adding to the growing buzz is the potential arrival of Manchester City's midfield maestro, Kevin De Bruyne, who is reportedly in advanced talks with San Diego FC ahead of the 2025 MLS season.

Kevin De Bruyne

San Diego FC, a newly established franchise set to debut in MLS in 2025, have made no secret of its ambitions. The club is determined to secure marquee signings under the MLS 'Designated Player' rule, which allows teams to sign up to three players whose wages do not count toward the salary cap.

Recent reports suggest that San Diego FC are prepared to go all out to bring De Bruyne to the United States. As per rumors, the club are even open to the ideas of giving De Bruyne a similar deal matching even that of Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.

The club has already made waves by signing Mexican forward Hirving Lozano from PSV Eindhoven and Northern Ireland captain Paddy McNair and De Bruyne could be the next.

At 33, Kevin De Bruyne is still a vital part of Pep Guardiola's Manchester City. His creativity, vision, and leadership have been instrumental in City's domestic and European success.

With six Premier League titles, one Champions League trophy, two FA Cups, and five League Cups, De Bruyne has established himself as one of the greatest midfielders in Premier League history.

Despite his continued influence on the pitch, the physical demands of the Premier League and recurring injuries may prompt the Belgian to consider a move to a less demanding league. MLS offers the perfect balance: a competitive environment paired with a lifestyle that aligns with his family's reported preference for living in the United States.

While MLS appears to be the frontrunner, De Bruyne is also attracting interest from the lucrative Saudi Pro League, which has recently lured stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, etc to name a few.

However, San Diego FC seem to hold a crucial edge in the race, with the player's family reportedly favoring a move to the U.S. over the Middle East. De Bruyne's Manchester City contract runs until 2025, aligning perfectly with San Diego FC's MLS debut season.

While City may want to hold onto their talisman for as long as possible, the chance of a new adventure in MLS might prove more reasonable for the Belgian superstar.
