Bengaluru, February 5: Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has suggested that he is open to competing for the No 1 spot in the team and will fight for his place if a new keeper comes to Santiago Bernabeu to take his position.
Los Blancos have been linked with a new stopper in recent weeks with Manchester United star David De Gea and Athletic Bilbao keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga rumoured to move to the Spanish capital.
The Costa Rican's position has been at stake for the last two years and even though there are various names thrown up every transfer window, Madrid have not signed anyone who could pip him from the first-choice spot.
The 31-year-old has now suggested that he is not worried about his place being taken by someone else and should someone join the side, he is ready to challenge him for the number one spot at Real Madrid.
"I am calm because one day I will have to go," the Costa Rica international was quoted as saying by goal.com.
"Nobody will last here forever and only God knows when [I will leave]. I give my all in every training and in every match, so I have to live with that. I don't know if the club have doubts about me, I only know that I still have a contract and I will remain calm.
"If Real Madrid were to sign a goalkeeper in the future, let him compete with me. I would like that and it wouldn't intimidate me."
Madrid, after having a successful 2017 with coach Zinedine Zidane, where they won the La Liga and Champions League, are fighting to maintain the same aura. Real are already out of the domestic cup Copa Del Ray and will face a tough match against French high-flyers PSG in the Champions League.
The Spanish giants also put up a disappointing show last week, drawing 2-2 at Levante to fall 20 points behind leaders Barcelona, which has all but ended their title hopes.
In these tough times, Navas has suggested the team needs more backing from their supporters.
"This has not been an easy year and we've had to put up with a lot," Navas said.
"The team has tried to move forward, but it hasn't come off. All we can do to move forward is to work. We know we must concentrate for the entire 90 minutes to win. I think this is a moment to be together.
"I hope that the fans that go to [the PSG match] will believe that we can move forward, as that's what we need right now."
