The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has officially confirmed Khalid Jamil as the new head coach of the Indian men's senior national football team.
This historic appointment makes Jamil the first Indian in over 13 years to be named head coach of the men's senior national team.

Khalid Jamil, aged 48, is currently the head coach of Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League. He has an impressive coaching record, including famously leading the underdog Aizawl FC to the I-League title in the 2016-17 season-a landmark achievement in Indian football. Jamil is an AFC Pro licensed coach and was named AIFF Coach of the Year for consecutive seasons, 2023-24 and 2024-25.
Currently, Jamil is in charge of ISL outfit Jamshedpur FC and is in charge of the club in the Durand Cup.
Jamil was selected from a competitive pool of around 170 applicants and emerged as a frontrunner alongside international contenders Stephen Constantine and Stefan Tarkovic. While Constantine has more international coaching experience, Jamil's deep understanding of Indian and Asian football, his proven success in the domestic league, and AIFF's current financial considerations favoured his appointment. His ability to quickly transition from club to national team duties was also a crucial factor.
Jamil's first assignment as head coach will likely be the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) Nations Cup starting August 31. Additionally, India has important qualifiers for the AFC Asian Cup scheduled in September and October, making it a busy start for the new coach.
The AIFF Executive Committee, with the presence of the Technical Committee, formally approved Jamil's appointment. This appointment marks a significant moment for Indian football, entrusting the national team leadership to a successful homegrown coach who understands the nuances of Indian football culture and competition.
As the Blue Tigers enter a tricky and pivotal period in the upcoming few months, Khalid Jamil's appointment is a big statement for Indian football.
