Jurgen Klopp has ruled out recent rumours of talks with Real Madrid, while stressing a return to management is likely in the next few years. The former Liverpool manager said there had been no contact from Madrid, even though Klopp continues to be linked with several high-profile European roles.
The speculation centres on Madrid’s coaching position before next season. Xabi Alonso left in January and Alvaro Arbeloa stepped in, yet Madrid trail Barcelona by four points in LaLiga. Los Blancos also meet Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals, with a 16th European crown viewed as their main trophy chance.

Asked in Munich about reports placing Klopp as a possible successor to Arbeloa, the former Liverpool manager gave a clear response. "If Real Madrid had phoned, we would have heard about it by now, but that's all nonsense," the German said. "They haven't called even once, not once. My agent is there; you can ask him. They haven't called him either. Right now, I'm not thinking about that. Luckily, there's no reason to."
Klopp, speaking at the Magenta TV World Cup team presentation, underlined that no future job is arranged. "For my age, I'm quite advanced in life, but as a coach I'm not completely finished. I haven't reached retirement age. Who knows what will happen in the coming years? But there's nothing planned." Those remarks kept options open without hinting at any preferred club.
Klopp ended a nine-year spell at Liverpool after the 2023-24 season, during which Liverpool won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two EFL Cups, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup. Klopp later accepted a position as head of global football with Red Bull, although links to major European benches have persisted.
Despite that wider interest, Klopp stated that any Premier League return would not involve a rival to Liverpool. Klopp said: "What I know definitely say is that I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100%. That's not possible." The comment reflected Klopp’s long-standing emotional connection with Anfield and the club’s supporters.
Klopp’s major trophies with Liverpool are shown below, highlighting why elite clubs remain attentive to future availability, even as Klopp insists there is "nothing planned" regarding the next job.
{TABLE_1}While Klopp currently focuses on work with Red Bull rather than touchline duties, the former Liverpool manager made clear that coaching remains part of future plans. With Madrid’s situation unresolved and other leading clubs often reassessing their benches, attention is likely to follow Klopp’s next move whenever a concrete opportunity appears.
