Kolkata witnessed an unprecedented show of unity as fans of the city's three major football clubs - Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, and Mohammedan SC - came together to protest the brutal Kolkata rape case and murder of a RG Kar Hospital doctor.

Among them were Mohun Bagan captain Subhasish Bose and his wife Kasturi Chhetri, as well as the All India Football Federation (AIFF) President, Kalyan Chaubey. Several well-known Bengali Tollywood celebrities, including Paoli Dam, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, and Rudranil Ghosh, were also in attendance, amplifying the demand for justice.

"It is very shameful; law and order has completely collapsed in West Bengal." Speaking to PTI, AIFF President and BJP member Kalyan Chaubey expressed his discontent with the current state of affairs in the state, "A football match could not happen because of security issues, and look at the police force, it's like a riot is going on here. I think this is a complete failure of the government."

"The current situation is such that this is not just a fight for East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. We all have to come together to seek justice for the horrific incident that happened," Subhasish Bose, captain of Mohun Bagan, highlighted the significance of unity in these troubled times, "After so long, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal have come together, the entire Bengali community has come together, we have to fight together so that the victim gets her justice. We want the culprit or culprits to get the punishment they deserve."

The call for the protest came after the Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal match which was set to be held on August 18, was cancelled citing security reasons. Fans were ready to call for justice during the Kolkata derby with special banners and jerseys.

After the cancellation of the most-anticipated game of the season, ultras fans of both teams called for protests in front of the stadium on August 18, 4:00 PM which led to such a huge protest. The protestors are continuing to demonstrate their mettle even in the rain on the evening of the date.
