The entire Bengal has roared with their vociferous voice against the horrific incident in Kolkata. The unrest follows the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College.

The much-awaited clash between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal FC on Sunday was called off for security concerns amid ongoing city protests. But the fans united in their protest and gathered outside the Salt Lake Stadium.

'We want Justice. We want Justice,' the fans roared at the stadium and then amid their protest, a few fans were detained by the police. A video shared by ANI showed a few Mohun Bagan and East Bengal fans inside a prison van.

AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey also walked in the protest march along with the supporters and vented his grievance against the West Bengal government.

"It is very shameful. Law and order has completely collapsed in West Bengal. A football match could not happen and look at police deployment, it looks like a riot is going on," Chaubey said.

The Kolkata Police recommended against holding the match, citing significant security challenges. An official statement from the Durand Cup Organizing Committee confirmed, "The final Group A fixture between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Emami East Bengal FC, scheduled to be played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on August 18, 2024, at 7:00 PM, stands abandoned."

East Bengal and Mohun Bagan both received one point after the abandonment of the match. Both teams have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Durand Cup. Also, the quarterfinal matches of both teams have been moved away from Kolkata.

Mohun Bagan will be up against Punjab FC in Jamshedpur on August 23, while East Bengal will take on Shillong Lajong FC in Shillong on August 21.
