La Liga 2016/17: Schedule of game week 16

Bengaluru, Dec 15: La Liga game week 16 kicks off this Saturday, December 17 with Real Betis taking on newbies Alaves.

The headlining match of the game week is the Catalan derby where second-placed FC Barcelona take on local rivals Espanyol.

Barcelona, after a poor run of form in the league, came back strongly defeating Osasuna 3-0 last weekend. Lionel Messi's sublime form is something Luis Enrique would bank in the derby.

The Catalan giants are six points behind league leaders Real Madrid which practically means they have to win each and every game from now on to pose a threat.

Atletico Madrid take on Las Palmas. Diego Simeone's side will be eyeing a full three points in order to be in contention for the automatic Champions League spot.

Table toppers Real Madrid do not have any game scheduled this game week.
