La Liga 2023-24: Pedri to miss Villarreal vs Barcelona due to thigh injury

Pedri has suffered an injury early in La Liga 2023-24 season as the 20-year-old Barcelona midfielder injured his right quadriceps ahead of the crucial match for the defending champions — Villarreal vs Barcelona — at the La Ceramica Stadium in Villarreal on Sunday (August 27, 2023).

As per the statement released by FC Barcelona, the player has injured his right thigh but didn't divulge further information on the severity of his injury and the time it will take the Spanish international to recover from it but did rule him out of the weekend game.

"Pedri has a right quadriceps injury. He is unavailable for selection and his recovery will determine his return.," read the statement by FC Barcelona on its official website and shared on official social media handles.

Pedri was a star figure in the last game as Barcelona scored their first goal and win in La Liga 2023-24 season in a hard-fought 2-0 triumph over Cadiz. Pedri was the first to unlock a stubborn Cadiz defense as the midfielder made a solo run to play one-two with Ilkay Gundogan to score the opening goal in the 82nd of the match.

Ferran Torres then sealed the win with the second goal in injury time in front of home fans. The match also saw 16-year-old Lamine Yamal makes his full debut for Barcelona. Pedri's uncertainty should be covered by the return of winger Raphinha, who missed the Cadiz game due to a red-card suspension.
