Vincent Kompany is amazed at how Barcelona has quickly filled the gap left by Lionel Messi with Lamine Yamal. Bayern Munich will face the Spanish winger, who was instrumental in Spain's Euro 2024 victory, when they play against Barcelona on Wednesday. Yamal, a product of La Masia like Messi, has given Barcelona fans hope for similar success.
Messi achieved four Champions League titles and ten La Liga victories with Barcelona before moving to Paris Saint-Germain and then Inter Miami. Kompany believes that as long as Yamal continues to perform, Barcelona won't feel Messi's absence significantly. "I honestly don’t know but it is already exceptional for Barcelona as a club so shortly after the departure of Messi... one of the key figures of our football era, already to have potentially a player who can replace him," Kompany stated during a press conference.

Yamal has started the season impressively after his European triumph, scoring five goals and providing six assists in all competitions. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich finds themselves in 15th place after two Champions League matches and are eager to recover from their recent defeat against Aston Villa.
Kompany emphasized that Bayern's focus should not only be on stopping individual players like Yamal but on winning the game overall. "I honestly think the question for us is not trying just to stop players but to win a game and that includes playing against all players not just one player although he [Yamal] is an exceptional player," he remarked.
Bayern welcomes back Jamal Musiala from injury, though Kompany remains undecided about his starting role. He noted Musiala's importance to Bayern but stressed the need for balance over upcoming matches. "With Jamal... everyone knows how important he is for Bayern but it is not just about the next game but the next 30 or 40 matches," Kompany added.
As both teams prepare for their encounter, much attention will be on how Yamal performs against Bayern and whether Musiala will make an impact if he plays. The match promises to be a significant test for both clubs as they navigate their Champions League campaigns.
