Lautaro Martinez showcased exceptional skill by scoring a decisive goal against Sparta Prague, making him Inter's joint-top scorer in the Champions League. Inter secured a 1-0 victory on Wednesday, bringing them close to automatic qualification for the round of 16. Martinez's volley from Alessandro Bastoni's cross highlighted his excellent technique and recent form, marking his fifth goal in seven matches.

Inter dominated possession against Sparta Prague with 69.5%, their second-highest in a Champions League away game since 2003-04, following their 71.8% against Viktoria Plzen in September 2022. Despite several opportunities to extend their lead, including a disallowed goal by Denzel Dumfries for offside, Inter remained untroubled throughout the match.

Martinez equalled Adriano's record as Inter's all-time leading scorer in the competition with 14 goals. He aims to increase this tally when Inter hosts Monaco next Wednesday, needing just a point to advance. "I am full of pride, great players in Inter's history have passed through this competition, so having reached this milestone is important," Martinez told Inter TV.

Reflecting on the match against Sparta Prague, Martinez noted that their opponents had little to lose due to their low points tally. "It was a game in which, having few points, they [Sparta Prague] had nothing to lose," he said. In the first half, Inter found spaces and created chances but conceded some possession later.

This victory marked Inter's fourth 1-0 win in this season's Champions League, matching Atletico Madrid's record from the 2016-17 season. The Nerazzurri demonstrated consistent performance throughout the competition, maintaining strong defensive and offensive strategies.

Martinez shared insights into his recent success after not scoring for six games prior to his current streak. "I worked harder, that's the secret: when things don't go well, you have to put your head down," he explained. He credited his father for instilling this work ethic from a young age.
