Lee Carsley has committed to managing England's Under-21 team until 2027, having signed a new contract. Previously on a rolling 12-month deal, Carsley briefly led the senior team after Gareth Southgate's departure in 2024. With the Under-21 European Championships approaching, Carsley aims to retain the title they won against Spain two years ago.
The upcoming tournament will be held in Slovakia, with England set to face the Czech Republic on 12 June. Carsley expressed his dedication, stating: "I've just signed an extension. I've got the Euros and then the next campaign. My future is definitely the FA. I am just trying to do it again [win the Euros]. The priority is the Euros and I won't be taking my eye off of that."

England's squad includes promising talents like Arsenal's Ethan Nwaneri and Tottenham's Archie Gray. However, changes are expected due to injuries and club commitments. Adam Wharton is injured, while Liam Delap might miss out as he prepares for Chelsea's FIFA Club World Cup participation. Jobe Bellingham could also be absent if he transfers to Borussia Dortmund soon.
Despite these potential changes, Carsley remains calm about player availability. He stated: "We have room within our schedule to make sure that they get a chance if they need to have a medical or they need to speak to a club. Ideally I want them here, of course I do. You want your strongest squad but we have to put the players first and that is definitely what we are doing."
Carsley's previous success with the Under-21 team saw seven players move up to Thomas Tuchel's senior squad for matches against Andorra and Senegal. He believes this progression can motivate current players during the tournament. "I think that can be inspiring for this group," Carsley said.
The manager highlighted that nine players from their last victorious European Championships squad debuted in the senior team. This serves as an incentive for current players aiming for similar advancement opportunities.
Carsley's focus remains on winning another European Championship while nurturing young talent for future senior team roles.
