Leeds United Secures Left-Back Gabriel Gudmundsson From Lille For £10m

Leeds United has completed the signing of left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson from Lille for a reported fee of £10m. The player is eager to contribute to the team in the Premier League.

Leeds United, newly promoted to the Premier League, have secured the services of left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson from Lille. The club reportedly paid £10 million (€11.5 million) for the Swedish player. Gudmundsson, who joined Lille in 2021, made 103 appearances in Ligue 1 and scored four goals. Last season, he played 30 matches in France's top division and has now committed to a four-year contract at Elland Road.

Gudmundsson expressed his excitement about joining Leeds, stating, "It feels very good. It's been a dream for me to come to the Premier League and to sign for Leeds to be a part of that, it feels amazing." He added that growing up watching the Premier League and having a father who played there created a special connection for him. "It's an amazing league and it's a big competitive league, the strongest league in the world, in my opinion."

The signing of Gudmundsson marks Leeds' fourth acquisition during this transfer window. The club had previously brought in Jaka Bijol, Lukas Nmecha, and Sebastiaan Bornauw. Additionally, Leeds announced that defender Sam Byram has extended his stay with a new one-year contract.

Gudmundsson is eager to embrace the challenges ahead and is enthusiastic about playing in front of Leeds' fans. "I'm up for all the challenges and really looking forward to playing here in front of all the fans and with teammates and get to know everyone," he said. He aims to contribute his skills to help the team succeed.

Reflecting on his career so far, Gudmundsson believes his experience will benefit Leeds. "I want to help the team with my qualities. That's what I think I came here to do," he noted. With his past experiences, he hopes to make a significant impact at Elland Road.

Leeds United's return to the Premier League follows their Championship victory last season. The club is keen on strengthening its squad as they prepare for top-flight competition once again.
