Leeds United Earns Point At Bournemouth As Longstaff Stuns With Late Equaliser
Leeds United earned a late 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, with Sean Longstaff striking in the 97th minute at the Vitality Stadium. Leeds came from behind twice, and the point moved Leeds nine points clear of the Premier League relegation places.
Bournemouth thought victory was secure when substitute Rayan scored five minutes from time, steering Tyler Adams’ cross into the bottom-left corner. Moments earlier, Evanilson had a goal ruled out for a marginal offside after a VAR check, keeping Leeds within reach.

The decisive moment arrived deep into stoppage time from another long throw into the Bournemouth area. The hosts failed to clear, the ball dropped to Longstaff on the edge of the box, and the midfielder volleyed past Djordje Petrovic to deny Bournemouth a move up to sixth.
Leeds had already hit the woodwork in stoppage time when Lukas Nmecha’s volley struck the base of the right post. Earlier in the second half, Leeds also levelled through an own goal from James Hill, soon after Noah Okafor had clipped the post during a spell of pressure.
The match statistics underlined Bournemouth’s frustration. The Cherries produced 1.45 expected goals from 17 attempts, with Marcos Senesi also hitting the frame of the goal, compared with Leeds’ 0.83 xG from 10 shots. Yet Leeds left with a point and extended the cushion above the bottom three.
{TABLE_1}Throw-ins again proved a major weapon for Leeds. The team have now scored four league goals from this route during the current campaign. Only Brentford, with five, have more. There have been three occasions of a club scoring twice from throw-ins in one Premier League game this season, and Leeds account for two, including December’s meeting with Crystal Palace.
Despite conceding at 96:05, Bournemouth stretched an impressive unbeaten Premier League sequence to 14 matches, with six wins and eight draws. It is currently the longest active undefeated run in any of Europe’s top five leagues, although Bournemouth have dropped 20 points from winning positions, fewer only than Newcastle’s 25.
The contest had swung Bournemouth’s way just after half-time, when Junior Kroupi opened the scoring on the hour. Kroupi’s shot deflected off Joe Rodon and wrong-footed Karl Darlow, who had earlier produced an important save on the stroke of half-time to deny Ryan Christie.
Leeds answered quickly after Kroupi’s opener, capitalising when Hill diverted into the net to restore parity. With both teams hitting the woodwork and spurning chances, the match remained open. Bournemouth appeared set for three points through Rayan, but Longstaff’s late strike ensured a shared result.
