Leeds United secured their first win of the new season with a 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Friday. Brenden Aaronson and Daniel James scored on either side of half-time to seal the win. Mateo Joseph was instrumental in Leeds' success, testing Sheffield Wednesday's goalkeeper James Beadle within the first five minutes. His persistence paid off in the 24th minute when Aaronson converted a left-footed shot after Joseph was fouled in the penalty area. Despite seven shots in the first half, Leeds couldn't extend their lead before halftime.

Joseph continued to shine in the second half, setting up James for Leeds' second goal. His precise pass allowed James to sprint past the Owls' defence and lob the ball over Beadle. This goal marked Leeds' second strike within the first 15 minutes of the second half this season, with only Watford having more early second-half goals.

Despite not scoring, Joseph was pivotal for Leeds, filling the gap left by Georginio Rutter. He registered four shots and had seven touches in the opposition box, achieving an expected goals (xG) of 0.3, only surpassed by James' xG of 0.46. His performance highlighted his importance to Farke's side.
