Leeds United Maintain Championship Lead With Dominant 7-0 Victory Over Cardiff City

In a stunning display, Leeds United defeated Cardiff City 7-0, with standout performances from Brenden Aaronson and Joel Piroe. This victory solidifies Leeds' position at the top of the Championship table.

Leeds United showcased a dominant performance at Elland Road, securing a 7-0 victory over Cardiff City and maintaining their two-point lead at the top of the Championship. Brenden Aaronson opened the scoring in the sixth minute, converting Daniel James' cross. James then assisted Manor Solomon shortly after. Five minutes into the second half, James scored and won a penalty, which Joel Piroe converted to solidify Leeds' lead.

At Pride Park, Sheffield United's Ben Brereton Diaz scored his first goal since rejoining the team, leading them to a 1-0 win against Derby County. This victory bolstered their automatic promotion hopes. Brereton Diaz capitalised on Tom Cannon's low cross four minutes after halftime. Despite efforts from Kenzo Goudmijn and Lars-Jorgen Salvesen to equalise for Derby, they remained unsuccessful, leaving Derby third from bottom and two points from safety.

Leeds United Crush Cardiff City 7-0

Leeds continued their relentless attack with Wilfried Gnonto scoring after coming off the bench. Mateo Joseph also found the net before Piroe completed his brace in stoppage time. This defeat marked Cardiff's heaviest loss in 70 years. Meanwhile, Sheffield United's win keeps them second in the standings, three points ahead of Burnley, who drew goalless with Portsmouth.

Plymouth Argyle achieved a significant 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion thanks to Ryan Hardie's two goals within 11 minutes. Jayson Molumby initially put West Brom ahead in the 74th minute. However, Hardie equalised with a penalty three minutes later after Callum Styles handled the ball. Hardie then secured the win by sneaking past West Brom's defence just before full-time.

Plymouth's triumph ended their 15-game winless streak under new manager Miron Muslic and brought them within four points of safety. West Brom remains sixth but faces potential displacement if Middlesbrough avoids defeat against Sunderland on Monday. Coventry City continued their impressive form under Frank Lampard with a 2-1 win over Swansea City.

Brandon Thomas-Asante played a key role for Coventry by scoring and assisting in their victory over Swansea. Ellis Simms gave Coventry an early lead with a hooked finish as Swansea struggled without former captain Matt Grimes, who joined Coventry recently. Thomas-Asante doubled Coventry's advantage before halftime with a stunning long-range shot.

Coventry is now close to playoff contention after securing their fourth consecutive league win. In contrast, Swansea has only managed one point from six Championship matches in 2025, dropping to 17th place and just seven points above relegation.
