Leicester City have confirmed Gary Rowett as manager on a deal running until the end of the 2025-26 season. The club sit 22nd in the Championship after a six-point deduction for breaching financial rules, leaving Leicester City in the relegation places despite an ongoing appeal.
Rowett replaces Marti Cifuentes, who was dismissed in January following only one win since the start of the calendar year. The 51-year-old will lead Leicester City for the first time against Stoke City on Saturday, with immediate focus on halting the slide towards League One.

Rowett brings extensive Championship experience to Leicester City after managing 417 matches in the division. Across those games, Rowett has recorded 157 victories, with 135 draws and 125 defeats, giving an average of 1.45 points per match. Leicester City hope this record translates into stability during a difficult run-in.
Earlier this season, Rowett managed Oxford United but left the club in December by mutual agreement. Rowett also has a history with Leicester City as a player, making 49 appearances for the Foxes. That previous spell at the club now feeds into Rowett’s second spell, this time in the Leicester City dugout.
"I'm really proud to be the new Leicester City manager and to have the opportunity to work with and lead a really talented group over the coming months," Rowett said. "It's very clear to us all what needs to be achieved between now and the end of the season and the work begins immediately. I'm looking forward to building connections with the players, with the staff at the club and with all of fans - all of which will be vital to helping us secure the results we need." Rowett’s task is to guide Leicester City out of danger while the points deduction appeal continues.
