Leicester City eye in-form defender Ahmed Hegazi

Bengaluru, December 3: West Bromwich Albion fear they could be miss out on signing Egyptian defender Ahmed Hegazi even though they have an option to buy him at the end of the season as Leicester City have started to show interest in him.

Defender Hegazi has made a big impact at The Hawthorns this season after joining the club on loan for the year from Al Ahly and the Baggies will surely want him to be signed permanently at the end of the season.

As a clause of that deal the Baggies have an option in place that allows them to buy the 26-year-old next summer for £4.4million. But even though the club are now keen to activate that clause, they fear they could still miss out on signing him.

Hegazi's form has caught the attention of other clubs in the Premier League, and reports claim that Leicester City are showing interest in him among many other clubs.

Even Liverpool are rumoured to be interested in the in-form Egyptian defender and will have an edge to sign him if they really want him thanks to Mohamed Salah.

And though West Brom have an agreement with Al Ahly, it does not guarantee that the payer will automatically sign for them and they are not in particularly good form as well.

If the defender chooses to reject the move, Al Ahly would then be free to negotiate with other clubs.

So if Leicester, and others, decide to make their move, West Brom would be able to do little.

The centre-back has become a key player for the club this season, starting all 14 of their Premier League games so far for the Midlands club.

His partnership with Jonny Evans has grown pretty well and new boss Alan Pardew wants to build on that base going forward.

But Pardew may find he has to battle to convince both that their long-term future are with the midlands club.

Meanwhile, Hagazi’s partner in defence Evans is still being tracked by Manchester City, who failed with a late bid to sign him in the summer transfer window.

Now the Cityzens could return with another offer next month when the window re-opens, though they could face competition from Arsenal.

Both clubs have been monitoring his displays this season and could make an offer hard for West Brom to reject in January.
