Leicester City miss deadline to register Adrien Silva by 14 seconds

Leicester, Sep 7: Former Premier League Champion Leicester City have reportedly missed out on signing Sporting Lisbon captain Adrien Silva by just 14 seconds.

The Foxes reportedly negotiated a deal on the transfer deadline day for the Portuguese midfielder as an alternative of their midfield star Danny Drinkwater who went to Chelsea. The terms and condition were believed to be agreed with both the players and club.

The deal with Sporting was believed to be worth £22million for the 28-year-old however while registering the player in the Premier League in the dying moments of the deadline day Leicester allegedly requested an extension to complete the necessary paperwork.

But football's governing body FIFA has now claimed that they did not receive this in time, claiming it was just 14 seconds late and should the decision is upheld, it is unlikely Silva will be able to play for Leicester until January 2018. But Leicester must continue to pay his wages until they can attempt to re-register the Portugal international.

However, the Foxes are adamant that they have timely sent the paper before the due time and are now working with Sporting Lisbon and Silva to endeavour to demonstrate this and turn around the governing body's choice.

The Premier League is understood to be pointing out the fact that a small delay could cause because of technology as it takes time to receive an email to reach its receiver's destination.

A Leicester spokesman said: "We are working with Adrien and Sporting Clube de Portugal to overcome some issues relating to the player's registration and exploring all options to find a resolution."

Leicester will continue their Premier League pursuit following the International break with a home match against Chelsea on Saturday, which could see the prompt return of their former midfielder Drinkwater who just joined Chelsea.
