Leicester City Edge West Brom 2-1 As Abdul Fatawu Clinches Stoppage-Time Volley

Abdul Fatawu’s volley in the 94th minute gave Leicester a 2-1 win over West Brom in the Championship, after the visitors had threatened a late turnaround. Jordan Ayew opened the scoring, Karlan Grant equalised, and Ryan Mason’s team then suffered a 10th straight away defeat despite long spells of pressure.

West Brom’s performance suggested a different outcome. They generated 1.07 expected goals from 16 attempts, compared with Leicester’s 0.81 from 11 shots, yet left empty-handed. That defeat made this their worst away run for almost a century and kept them 18th in the Championship table.

Leicester started fast as Caleb Okoli and Jeremy Monga both went close but missed the target. The breakthrough came in the 17th minute from a flowing move. Jordan James reached the byline and cut the ball back. Ayew arrived in space and guided a first-time finish past the goalkeeper.

The hosts then lost control of the game and West Brom levelled shortly after the half-hour. Captain Alex Mowatt split the defence with a pass to Grant, who advanced into the box. Grant steadied with one touch and curled a composed strike inside the bottom-right corner to make it 1-1.

After the break, West Brom carried more threat. Grant almost struck again in the 52nd minute when a deflected shot beat Jakub Stolarczyk but bounced back off the right post. Soon afterwards Aune Heggebo met a cross first time, yet Stolarczyk reacted sharply and pushed the effort away.

West Brom continued to test Leicester’s defence through Samuel Iling-Junior and George Campbell, who both forced saves as Stolarczyk stayed firm. The match swung in stoppage time when Stephy Mavididi delivered a cross from the left and Fatawu met it with a precise volley. Louis Page then missed a clear chance for 3-1.
