London, Feb 6: Leicester City winger Marc Albrighton has lashed at media for ill-treating his team-mate Riyad Mahrez and suggested that the Algerian will not face a backlash from his team-mates despite his desires to leave the club.
Mahrez was subject to a transfer speculation in the deadline day as-as per reports Premier League leaders Manchester City were eager to sign the player. Seeing this opportunity, the player also reportedly asked for a transfer request.
However, absurd transfer demands from the Foxes apparently broke the deal off and since then the player missed training four times last week.
The player has already missed two consecutive matches, also four training sessions and there have been concerns that the player could face a frosty reception when he returns to the Leicester camp.
But his team-mate Englishman Albrighton has now come to the support of the player insisting that the media is tarnishing the situation and the rumours of a rift between the players and Mahrez was untrue.
"Obviously the media isn’t helping matters. We saw this before from when Claudio (Ranieri) was relieved of his duties last season, stories will get made up. They’re far from the truth and we just have to deal with it," Albrighton said.
"We can’t come out and argue with anyone, we just have to get on with our football and do our job. I’ve seen a few stories saying the players were angry and it’s far from the truth."
"That’s something that we have to deal with. We know it’s going to happen and we just get on with our job."
After a shaky start in the season, the Foxes have currently steadied the ship after the arrival of new boss Puel and resurgence of Mahrez who have registered eight goals and seven assists in 24 appearances.
Leicester are currently eighth in the Premier League table and lost only once in 2018, 2-1 against Everton.
