Borussia Dortmund rescued a 2-2 draw at RB Leipzig as Fabio Silva scored in the 95th minute, completing a comeback from two goals down. The result left Dortmund eight points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, who beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 earlier on 21 February.
Leipzig missed a chance to close ground in the Bundesliga, having led through a Christoph Baumgartner double at Red Bull Arena. Dortmund’s response, helped by Romulo’s own goal and Silva’s late strike, protected a 16-match unbeaten run in all competitions, their longest sequence since 2023.

The hosts went ahead after 20 minutes when Yan Diomande beat Julian Ryerson on the flank. Diomande drove into space and sent a low cross into the six-yard box, where an unmarked Baumgartner guided the ball past Gregor Kobel with a flick off the outside of the boot.
Leipzig doubled the advantage before half-time with a move again created from the left side. This time David Raum provided the delivery, drilling another low ball across goal. Baumgartner arrived at the near post and steered it beyond Kobel, putting RB Leipzig firmly in control against Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund cut the deficit soon after the interval from a set-piece situation. Ramy Bensebaini’s near-post touch hit Willi Orban and looped towards goal, then bounced off Romulo’s head and over the line. The goal was recorded as an own goal, bringing Borussia Dortmund back into contention at RB Leipzig.
Niko Kovac responded by introducing Julian Brandt, Fabio Silva and Karim Adeyemi as Dortmund chased an equaliser. The substitutions proved effective in stoppage time. Adeyemi broke into space and squared for Silva, who finished calmly to make it 2-2 and stun the RB Leipzig defence.
The visitors almost completed the turnaround in the 98th minute after the RB Leipzig backline was exposed again. Brandt timed a run to beat the offside trap and went clear on goal. However, the midfielder shot straight at Maarten Vandevoordt instead of passing to the unmarked Adeyemi.
The draw continued a frustrating Bundesliga pattern for RB Leipzig, who again dropped points from a strong position. They failed to secure a second consecutive league victory, something they had not achieved since three straight wins between October and November.
{TABLE_1}| Team | Points lost from winning positions (Bundesliga 2025-26) |
|---|---|
| RB Leipzig | 18 |
| Wolfsburg | 23 |
Leipzig’s total of 18 points lost from winning positions was the second-highest in the Bundesliga, with only Wolfsburg, on 23, letting more leads slip. Dortmund, by contrast, extended that 16-game unbeaten streak, keeping momentum in the league despite failing to close the gap on Bayern Munich.
