Lennart Karl Makes Champions League History As Youngest Player To Score In Three Consecutive Matches

Vincent Kompany commends Lennart Karl for his historic achievement in the Champions League, becoming the youngest player to score in three consecutive matches at just 17 years and 290 days.

Lennart Karl's remarkable performance in Bayern Munich's recent Champions League victory over Sporting CP drew praise from Vincent Kompany. Karl, at just 17 years and 290 days old, became the youngest player to score in three consecutive Champions League matches since 1992-93. His goal in the 69th minute set Bayern on course for a 3-1 comeback win, maintaining their impressive home record.

Karl's achievement was pivotal as Bayern extended their unbeaten streak in the league/group phase of the Champions League to 37 matches (35 wins, 2 draws) since December 2013. Despite his young age, Karl has consistently delivered crucial performances for Bayern. Kompany acknowledged his potential but noted that Karl could have had an even greater impact on the match.

Lennart Karl Sets Champions League Scoring Record

Serge Gnabry equalised after Joshua Kimmich's own goal, while Jonathan Tah sealed the victory. This win placed Bayern joint-top of the table ahead of Arsenal's upcoming match. Kompany expressed satisfaction with Karl's contributions, stating, "Lennart is always dangerous. To be honest, he's played better games for us, but he's always there."

Kompany also praised his team's resilience against a formidable Sporting side. "Sporting is a tough opponent; they're in the top eight of the Champions League for a reason," he said. The team remained composed after falling behind early in the match.

Kimmich's own goal marked Bayern's first conceded since August 2020 against Barcelona. He suggested that Karl's performances might earn him a spot in Germany's national team. "I assume that Lenny will continue to get playing time with us," Kimmich stated.

Currently a regular starter at Bayern Munich, Karl is seen as deserving of national team inclusion due to his impressive form and contributions to Bayern’s success.
