Lens strengthened their Ligue 1 lead with a 3-0 victory at Toulouse, taking full advantage of a first-half red card for Emersonn. Goals from Wesley Said, Adrien Thomasson and Ismaelo Ganiou decided the match, and the result means Lens will stay top for at least the next fortnight.
The win continues Lens' reliable attacking form in the French top-flight. Lens have now found the net in 13 of 17 Ligue 1 fixtures. Only Paris Saint-Germain, who have scored in 14 league matches, have managed to hit the scoresheet in more games this season.

The turning point arrived before half-time when Toulouse defender Emersonn received a red card. Lens needed time to adjust to the extra player and did not score until the second half. Once the opening goal came, Toulouse left more space, which allowed Lens to close out a comfortable away success.
Pierre Sage acknowledged that Lens were slow to exploit the dismissal but praised the response after the interval. "I'm quite happy with how we managed our second half because the first half left me a little unsatisfied from the moment we had a numerical advantage," said Sage. "It's true that the team showed maturity in building the game up until the moment they opened the scoring, and from that moment they were a little more open and we took advantage of that. So it's a great victory, and I think well deserved."
Captain Adrien Thomasson delivered a key contribution, scoring Lens' second goal and setting up Ganiou's stoppage-time strike. Thomasson now has five Ligue 1 assists this season. Only PSG midfielder Vitinha, with six, has provided more passes leading directly to goals in the division so far.
Thomasson outlined the squad's mindset at the start of the new calendar year. "We were determined to start this year off right, just like we finished it in 2025," Thomasson said. "Having done these things, it was not easy tonight, but we will remember the main things, the victory, not conceding a goal and scoring three. That is always positive."
Lens' display combined patience and control once Toulouse were reduced to ten players, helping maintain first place while Coupe de France fixtures pause the league. With a solid defensive record in this match and consistent scoring across the campaign, Sage's side remain well placed in the Ligue 1 title race.
