Lewis Dunk Critiques Brighton's Embarrassing 7-0 Loss To Nottingham Forest

Following a humiliating 7-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, Lewis Dunk criticises Brighton's performance. He emphasises the need for accountability and improvement ahead of upcoming matches.

Brighton faced a humiliating defeat against Nottingham Forest, losing 7-0 at the City Ground. Chris Wood's hat-trick led the charge for Forest, with Morgan Gibbs-White, Neco Williams, and Jota Silva also scoring. An own goal by Lewis Dunk initiated the downfall. Dunk has now scored seven own goals in the Premier League, second only to Richard Dunne's ten.

Since joining the Premier League in 2017-18, Brighton has scored more own goals than any other team, totalling 19. Dunk expressed his disappointment to TNT Sports, stating, "Everything [went wrong]. It was embarrassing." He acknowledged letting down both the team and their travelling fans and emphasised the need for self-reflection and improvement.

Dunk Slams Brighton After Heavy Defeat

The defeat marked Nottingham Forest's largest league victory since a 7-0 win over Chelsea in April 1991. For Brighton, it was their heaviest league loss since a 9-0 defeat to Middlesbrough in 1958. The performance left Dunk questioning the team's intensity and desire during the match.

Dunk admitted that Brighton did not deserve anything from the game due to their lack of intensity. He stressed that improvement must begin on the training pitch with consistent hard work and determination. "It starts on the training pitch," he said, highlighting the importance of daily effort.

Reflecting on recent performances, Dunk noted how quickly fortunes can change in football. Just three games ago, Brighton were riding high after two consecutive wins but now find themselves struggling again. The team is set to face Chelsea twice soon—first in an FA Cup match and then in a Premier League clash on February 14.

The upcoming matches against Chelsea present an opportunity for Brighton to bounce back from this setback. Dunk emphasised that they must ensure such disappointing performances are not repeated by working diligently both on and off the field.
