Myles Lewis-Skelly Impresses As Arsenal Secures 3-0 Champions League Win Over Monaco

Mikel Arteta hailed Myles Lewis-Skelly's exceptional performance in Arsenal's 3-0 Champions League win against Monaco. At just 18, he achieved remarkable pass accuracy and became the youngest player to start a Champions League match for the club since 2011.

Mikel Arteta praised Arsenal's young full-back, Myles Lewis-Skelly, after his impressive performance in their 3-0 Champions League victory over Monaco. At just 18 years and 76 days old, Lewis-Skelly became the youngest player to start a Champions League match for Arsenal since Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in 2011. Injuries to key players like Oleksandr Zinchenko and Ben White opened up this opportunity for him.

Lewis-Skelly made the most of his chance by completing 45 out of 47 passes, achieving a pass accuracy of 96%. This was the highest for an Arsenal teenager in a Champions League game since Johan Djourou's performance against Hamburg in September 2006. Arteta expressed pride in Lewis-Skelly's display, stating, "He is one of our own and a joy to watch. It's great we can trust him to play in this environment."

Lewis-Skelly Shines in Arsenal's Victory

Reflecting on Arsenal's overall performance, Arteta noted that they should have secured the win earlier in the first half but faced challenges typical of Champions League matches. He mentioned that after scoring the second goal, the game was under control. Currently, Arsenal holds third place in the 36-team Champions League table with two group-stage games left against Dinamo Zagreb and Girona next month.

Monaco, on the other hand, sits at 16th place with only 10 points after consecutive defeats in the competition. Their coach, Adi Hutter, acknowledged Arsenal's deserved victory but criticized his team's errors. "Too many gifts from our side; it's not acceptable at this level," he said. Despite being pleased with their initial play and bravery in the second half, he lamented their significant mistakes.

The absence of several key players forced Arteta to make strategic adjustments. Jakub Kiwior had to fill in at centre-back while Jurrien Timber was only fit enough for a bench role. These changes allowed Lewis-Skelly to showcase his skills on such a significant stage.

Arteta emphasized that despite some struggles during the match, securing a second goal helped them regain control. This victory places Arsenal in a strong position as they prepare for upcoming matches against Dinamo Zagreb and Girona.

The young talent's emergence highlights Arsenal's depth and potential for future success. As they continue their Champions League journey, maintaining focus and minimizing errors will be crucial for both teams involved.
