Liam Rosenior Named Paris FC Head Coach To Return In Ligue 1

Liam Rosenior is returning to Ligue 1 as Paris FC appoints the former Chelsea manager as head coach. The club turns to Rosenior after the difficult end to the Chelsea spell, where the team endured a severe slump in results and struggled badly in front of goal.

The 41-year-old has agreed a two-year deal with Paris FC, which includes an option for an extra season, and replaces Antoine Kombouare. Rosenior’s first league match in charge is scheduled against Troyes on August 22, a key early test for both coach and squad.

Liam Rosenior Takes Paris FC Post

Paris FC stay in the French top flight after a strong finish to the 2025-26 campaign under Kombouare. From February, Paris FC lost only two of the final 11 fixtures, winning six and drawing three, which ensured survival and set a base for Rosenior’s new project.

Sporting director Marco Neppe outlined why Paris FC turned to Rosenior following that stabilising run under Kombouare. Neppe said: "Liam Rosenior possesses all the qualities we were looking for. He is a modern, demanding coach, renowned for his ability to develop both individual players and the team as a whole. Beyond his tactical skills, we were particularly impressed by his management abilities and his capacity to unite a group around a clear vision. I am convinced he has all the qualities to succeed at Paris FC, and I wish him every success in this new chapter of his career."

Rosenior already has notable Ligue 1 experience from a spell at Strasbourg between July 2024 and January 2026. Strasbourg secured seventh place in the 2024-25 season under Rosenior, earning a Conference League spot with what was recognised as the youngest squad across Europe’s top five domestic leagues.

That progress persuaded Chelsea to appoint Rosenior as successor to Enzo Maresca in January 2026. Results in England then deteriorated, with Chelsea losing 10 of 23 matches in all competitions under Rosenior, winning 11 and drawing two. The Premier League side went five league games without a goal, its worst run since 1912.

Liam Rosenior Paris FC head coach challenge after Chelsea dismissal

The Paris FC role is Rosenior’s third head coach position within a year, underlining a period of rapid change. After just over three months at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea dismissed Rosenior, leaving the coach searching for a fresh opportunity, which now arrives in the French capital with expectations but also patience.

For Paris FC, the appointment signals a desire to stabilise in Ligue 1 and then move higher after last season’s 11th-place finish following promotion. For Rosenior, the job offers a return to a familiar league, a young squad to develop, and a chance to rebuild reputation after the Chelsea setback.
