Pep Lijnders has been named as Pep Guardiola's new assistant coach at Manchester City. Previously, Lijnders held the same position at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, departing with him at the end of the 2023-24 season. The 42-year-old then took on a head coach role at RB Salzburg but was dismissed in December.
Joining Lijnders at Manchester City is James French, who previously worked as Liverpool's first-team opposition analyst. French will now be part of City's backroom staff. Director of football Hugo Viana expressed his satisfaction with these additions, especially with the Club World Cup approaching.

"We are all delighted that Pepijn and James have joined our senior coaching set-up," said Viana. He highlighted their extensive experience in their respective roles over recent years. Their expertise is expected to significantly benefit the team as they prepare for upcoming challenges.
Their skills and dedication align perfectly with Guardiola's vision for football. Viana is confident that both will become crucial assets for the coaching team during the Club World Cup and the 2025/26 season.
Manchester City's Club World Cup journey begins on June 18 against Wydad from Morocco. The club is optimistic about its prospects with these strategic coaching appointments. The new additions are expected to enhance the team's performance and strategy in upcoming matches.
