Lille President Olivier Letang Confirms Jonathan David Will Remain At Club Through January Transfer Window

Lille's president, Olivier Letang, has firmly dismissed any possibility of Jonathan David leaving the club in January. Despite interest from top European teams like Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Barcelona, Letang confirmed that no offers have been made for the forward. David, whose contract ends this season, expressed his admiration for Barcelona but prefers to stay at Lille until the season concludes.

David's impressive performance continues to shine as he enters his fifth season with Lille. He has netted 97 goals in 202 appearances across all competitions for the Ligue 1 team. This season alone, he has scored seven goals in 11 matches, including crucial goals against Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus in the Champions League.

Lille's Letang Rules Out January Exit for David

The Canadian international had his best league season in 2022-23, scoring 24 goals. In previous seasons, he managed to score 19, 15, and 13 goals respectively. His consistent goal-scoring ability makes him a valuable asset for Lille as they aim for Champions League qualification.

Letang emphasised that selling David was never considered due to his significant contribution to the team's success. "We are very happy to have him with us," Letang stated. "He scores between 20 and 25 goals a season and helps us qualify for the Champions League."

Letang reiterated that David has been presented with a new contract offer to remain at Stade Pierre-Mauroy. "Our position was very clear from the beginning—we think of the athlete," Letang explained. "Obviously, he already has an offer that is in his hands; the ball is in his court."

David's love for Lille further strengthens his commitment to the club. Despite being linked with several high-profile clubs, both Letang and David seem focused on continuing their journey together at Lille for now.
