Lionel Messi, the most decorated player in football history, added a 46th career trophy after a double strike helped Inter Miami overcome Major League Soccer champions, Columbus Crew 3-2 to clinch the MLS Supporters' Shield.
Messi scored two first-half goals, striking in the 45th minute and 5 minutes into injury time, while Luis Suarez added a third in the 48th minute, responding to Colombus' goal, to seal the award given for the best regular season record.

With the win, Inter Miami moved to 68 points in the Eastern Conference, and are on course to finish better than the Western Conference leaders Los Angeles Galaxy, who are currently on 61 points with two games left in the regular season.
Messi and Suarez had put Inter Miami in the driver's seat in the first half, but Colombus Crew fought back through a strike from Diego Rossi (46') and a spot-kick conversion from Chucho Hernandez in the 61st minute.
However, the Colombus Crew comeback became more challenging when Rudy Camacho was shown a red card in the 63rd minute, just moments after they had cut the deficit to 2-3. In the end, Inter Miami held on to clinch the trophy, the 46th in Messi's career.
Messi, who had been subdued for most part of the opening half, opened the scoring by taking advantage of a poorly assembled wall to curl a laser-precision free-kick into the corner past the stationary Columbus keeper Patrick Schulte.

The Argentine superstar added another just minutes later to add another trophy to his decorated career. The 37-year-old had surpassed Dani Alves to become the most decorated player in football history, when he won the Copa America in July.
