Inter Miami: Lionel Messi and Co’s disappointing defeats foreboding fate against Al Nassr?

Inter Miami have had a nightmarish start to their pre-season efforts with one loss in November and a two-match winless run in January. It has fans worried even with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets leading the way.

They have a few more games scheduled before the MLS 2024 season starts near the end of February. This includes a Saudi tour that will see Messi butt heads with Neymar Jr at Al Hilal on January 29 and Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr on February 1.

However, considering the run of disappointing results, Inter Miami and Lionel Messi fans may be scratching their heads. While the Argentine’s fans will be expecting to see him come out victorious, Miami's past few matches bear an unfortunate fate.

Following the arrival of Lionel Messi, Inter Miami went on a winning streak that saw them win the Leagues Cup. However, coming back to the MLS, Messi got injured and Miami's performance dropped. They are now on a 10-game winless run.

Miami lost their first pre-season friendly in November against New York City. In January, they drew against El Salvador and lost against FC Dallas. They played both matches after Luis Suarez arrived at the club.

However, both Messi and Suarez only played the 1st half against El Salvador and played for around 65 minutes against FC Dallas. Miami had the most possession in both matches. The presence of Messi, Suarez, Alba, and Busquets also elevated their performance to a degree.

However, it seems that their biggest problem is regarding finishing. In their two most recent matches, Miami have only been able to take a total of 14 shots. Even with an impressive attacking lineup, only 6 of those shots were on target.

Messi has delivered with his performance, but the 37-year-old Suarez who scored 26 goals and provided 17 assists last season, hasn't yet impressed. With only days left for their Saudi tour matches, Messi and Co need to find ways to win and quickly.
