Why Lionel Messi's return to Barcelona could be enough complicated?

Lionel Messi's 2-year deal with PSG hasn't been extended as of yet. While there is no reason to assume that Messi is unhappy in Paris but the simple fact that PSG have not yet tied him down has raised enough questions.

There appears to be a growing belief among Barcelona fans that a potential return of their prodigal son Lionel Messi to Camp Nou is on the cards ahead of next season.

The player's two-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain hasn't been extended as of yet.

While there is no reason to assume that Messi is unhappy in Paris but the simple fact that PSG have not yet tied him down has started reading enough questions.

It has sparked rumors of his potential future with a potential move to the Middle East and the United States also in the works. But another strong whisper that has been going around is his return to Spain.

Barcelona Club president Joan Laporta apparently has already contacted Messi's father over a dream return and talks are apparently still ongoing.

Messi is also understood to be weighing the possibilities of a return. The reason behind his comeback is believed to be his family members who are not comfortable in Paris and wish to return to their old base.

Financially and emotionally this seems like a fairytale possibility of a legend who could experience a fitting end to his elite career. But looking at some of the possibilities this move is anything but straightforward.

Why does Lionel Messi's move to Barcelona seem complicated?

Lionel Messi's dream arrival will be a great boost for Barcelona's struggling finances. The 35-year-old's arrival would hand the club a long list of new brand associations for sure as well as more media attention that could be beneficiary to generate more money.

However, despite all such first of all they need to acquire the required funds to land the World Cup winner.

As per La Liga president Javier Tebas, going by the current finances, Barcelona will not be able to register any new players this summer before first raising £178 million. They are thought to be in debt to the tune of around £1 billion.

The Catalan side could think of getting rid of several first-team players and deadwood to accommodate him but that certainly is challenging. Moreover, handing Messi exemplary wages also looks tough at this moment.

Barcelona firstly will look to sort out its Financial Fair Play issues before thinking about any moves in the summer. But the coming summer could be the final opportunity for Barcelona to reconcile with its star. So it will be interesting to see whether they can alter their budget to fit him or not.
