Lionel Messi on Sunday (July 14) went on to become the most decorated player in football history following Argentina's Copa America triumph, which saw him overtake former teammate Dani Alves to the feat.
Messi left the field early due to injury as Argentina defeated Colombia 1-0 in the Copa America 2024 final at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

By adding a second Copa America title to his cabinet, Messi created a record for most trophies won by a player in football - 45 trophies with both club and country, surpassing the previous record held by Brazil's Alves.
Since breaking his drought for an international trophy in the senior team in 2021, Messi has won four titles with Argentina in the last three years, winning the Copa America twice in 2021 and 2024, the Finalissima once in 2022 and the FIFA World Cup one time in 2022.
Before winning the Copa America in 2021, Messi had clinched the Olympics gold in 2008 and FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2005 with junior teams of Argentina. While he has won six titles with the national team, the 37-year-old has 39 titles from his club career.
Messi, who won his first club title in 2004-05 season in Barcelona, went on a trophy-winning spree at th Catalan club with whom he won a total of 34 trophies, including 10 La Liga and 4 Champions League titles.
