Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, could mark history as he has been named in the latest Argentina squad.
The Argentina national team recently announced a list of 35 players who have been selected for the upcoming friendlies against Panama and Curacao. Quite naturally, Argentina skipper Lionel Messi has made the list and is nearing yet another historic feat in his career.
The last time Messi wore La Albiceleste's iconic jersey was during their victorious campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The national hero of the South American country guided his country to the final, eventually securing the trophy after beating reigning champions France. Messi achieved his lifelong dream of winning the World Cup for his country but could enter the history books of the game for another major achievement.
The former Barcelona superstar has scored 98 goals for his country till date in his illustrious career and is only two goals shy of the coveted milestone of 100 international goals. By scoring two more, he would become only the third man in football history to achieve this feat.
Messi's eternal rival Cristiano Ronaldo currently holds the record for scoring the most number of goals for his country. Ronaldo has 118 goals to his name in 196 appearances for Selecao.
