Paris Saint Germain sealed their league title with one game to spare with Lionel Messi again proving instrumental to their success in the 2022-23 campaign.

For the 11th time in the club's history, PSG just needed a point away against Strasbourg to secure Ligue 1 victory. A solitary goal from Messi ensured they came with a point after drawing against them 1-1.

The little Argentine stunned the football world with his transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021 after he fail to renew his deal with the Catalan giants. Much was anticipated from Messi but he fell short of the huge expectations that surrounded his change of team. He did win the league title in his debut campaign, however, could only record just 11 goals and 15 assists in the campaign.

The ongoing season although has again seen the best bits of the former Barcelona legend. Messi so far has registered 16 assists in the league and only Neymar comes close in this list with 11 assists. He has also found scoring boot consistently this time around with 16 goals to his name as well. His link-up with Kylian Mbappe is one of the big reasons behind their title success this season.

A World Cup win alongside clinching the league title could be termed a pretty convincing season for the 35-year-old. However, at the start of the season, the objective for the French Champions was far superior. PSG just like previous seasons hoped to clinch the Champions League in which they faltered once again.

Lionel Messi did register some good numbers during the group stage with four goals and assists each. However, he could not save the side in the knockout stage after Bayern Munich knocked them out in the round of 16. Overall Messi has registered 21 goals and 20 assists in 40 games all competition which is an impressive number.

The World Cup winner however also involved in a controversy in the ongoing campaign. Following the loss to Lorient, PSG banned him for two weeks for taking an unapproved vacation to Saudi Arabia, after he missed the trip to Troyes on May 7. Although he apologized and things ended in a reasonable way.

His time in France however is believed to be over. Messi is reportedly not willing to renew or sign a new deal with PSG which ends this summer. There are rumors that he is seeking a return to Barcelona with a fairy-tale ending to his career while there is also a possibility of him joining the Qatar League with a big-money move. The upcoming few months or weeks could refine the rumors in more detail as of now.
