In a significant turn of events, Lionel Messi, the star forward for PSG and a former captain of Barcelona, reportedly has decided against extending his current contract with the French champions.
Messi's two-year deal with PSG, which he signed in 2021 after leaving Barcelona on a free transfer, has less than five months remaining on it. The French giants are eager to renew it and talks have been going on for some months.
The Argentine legend reportedly put any renewal talks on hold last year before World Cup. However, new approaches reportedly have been made, and going by some reports, talks have not been fruitful yet.
The legendary striker and his father Jorge reportedly met with club representatives in midweek but were unable to come to an agreement. No concrete decision has been made yet and if things don't change, the little Magician could choose a new route in the upcoming month.

There have been talks of him returning to Barcelona however his father Jorge has already killed any similar transfer hopes with a strong statement on a potential Camp Nou return.
"I don't think Leo will play for Barca again," Jorge Messi told Sport. "The conditions are not met. We have not spoken with Laporta and there is no offer."
But a lucrative move to MLS or the middle east still remains a big possibility for the 35-year-old at this stage as per some rumours. It is understood former England and Manchester United icon David Beckham who owns MLS side Inter Miami are interested in capturing the legend in what could be the biggest coup in the history of the United States footballing culture.
Besides them, there are also murmurs that he could follow the path of his old rival Cristiano Ronaldo. By persuading Cristiano Ronaldo to play for Al-Nassr during the winter, Saudi Arabia pulled a rabbit out of the hat. There are rumours that they could now focus on recruiting Messi to the Middle East with another lucrative contract on Al-Hilal's behalf.
Messi has experienced a positive second season in France this campaign with 15 goals and 14 assists so far, giving PSG hope that a renewal could be on the cards. But as of now, his future is still up in the air and it remains to be seen where the PSG attacker will be playing his club football next season.
