After a disappointing exit from the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, Lionel Messi and Inter Miami stormed back to MLS life in a spectacular fashion.
Inter Miami secured a thumping 4-1 away win over Montreal on Saturday, marking a robust comeback in the domestic competition.

Messi, in particular, was sublime as the Argentina legend scored a brace in the encounter. He made a mistake in the first minutes of the match, and then turned things around brilliantly.
Messi's misplaced backpass in the second minute allowed Montreal's Prince Owusu to open the scoring, but Argentine maestro quickly turned the tide in Inter Miami's favour. In the 33rd minute, Messi set up Tadeo Allende just outside the area, and the Argentine midfielder lofted a delicate chip over goalkeeper Jonathan Sirios to level the scores.
Seven minutes later, Messi delivered his trademark magic. Cutting inside from the right, he danced past Fernando Alvarez and curled a precise finish into the far corner to hand Miami a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
Telasco Segovia added a third in the 60th minute with a thunderous strike from distance. Just two minutes later, Messi capped off the performance with a dazzling solo run, weaving through four defenders before finishing clinically.
Although there were doubts about the former Barcelona player's availability, Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano cleared the air after the match.
"Leo is happy playing football. Every time he is fit, he is going to play. Clearly we have an extra advantage when he plays and we want to use that advantage as much as possible." Mascherano said.
Messi has been prolific for Miami this season as the 38-year-old has so far scored 18 goals across all competitions this season. Despite Miami's victory, they remain 6th in the Eastern Conference table with 32 points in 17 matches.
