Lionel Messi Scripts History, Beats Cristiano Ronaldo To Set New World Record

Lionel Messi continues to redefine greatness. The Argentine legend etched another milestone in his glittering career by surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo's record for the most non-penalty goals in football history.

His latest achievement came on Sunday during Inter Miami's emphatic 5-1 victory over New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer.

Messi bagged a stunning brace at Red Bull Arena to bring his tally of non-penalty goals to a record-breaking 764 - one more than Ronaldo's previous best of 763. What makes the feat even more staggering is that the World Cup-winning forward accomplished it in 167 fewer matches than his Portuguese rival, further highlighting his unmatched efficiency in front of goal.

The 36-year-old superstar drew level with Ronaldo in the 60th minute, showing his sharpness and instinct as he finished off a flowing Miami move. Then, fifteen minutes later, he left the footballing world in awe again by setting the new benchmark. Bringing down a lofted ball inside the box with his chest, Messi calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper, securing both his second of the game and his place atop football's non-penalty scoring charts.

Earlier in the contest, the Herons had gone behind after Alexander Hack's early opener for the Red Bulls. However, goals from Jordi Alba and a brace from Telasco Segovia had already turned the tide in Miami's favour before Messi stepped in to finish the job.

Messi's performance was his sixth brace in his last seven MLS appearances, underscoring his remarkable run of form since returning from the FIFA Club World Cup. Beyond the personal accolade, his contributions helped Miami bounce back from a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Cincinnati earlier in the week.

With this latest landmark, Messi not only surpasses a long-time rival but also further cements his status as one of football's all-time greats - a player who continues to deliver magic, records, and results well into the twilight of his career.
