Lionel Messi set to meet Narendra Modi, Mamata Banerjee during his India Trip, Dates Confirmed!

By MyKhel Staff

Lionel Messi, one of football's greatest icons, is set to embark on a landmark tour of India this December. The highlight of his itinerary will be a much-anticipated meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on December 15, capping off a whirlwind four-city adventure that also includes Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai.

In New Delhi, Messi and PM Modi are expected to discuss the universal language of sport, the growth of football in India, and global sportsmanship. The interaction is set for December 15, just hours before Messi headlines the "GOAT Concert" and the celebratory "GOAT Cup" at Arun Jaitley Stadium-a fitting tribute to the Argentine captain's legendary career.

Messi's journey begins in Kolkata on December 12, marking his longest stay of the tour. The city, renowned for its deep-rooted football culture, will welcome him with fanfare. On December 13, Messi will participate in a meet-and-greet event, followed by the unveiling of a colossal 70-foot-tall statue in his honor at Lake Town Sribhumi. The festivities continue with the star-studded GOAT Concert and GOAT Cup football event at Eden Gardens, featuring Indian sports and film celebrities.

In a gesture reflecting Kolkata's adoration for the beautiful game, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to felicitate Messi during the Eden Gardens celebration. While official details of a private meeting have not been confirmed, Banerjee's high-profile presence indicates the significance of Messi's visit to Kolkata and her likely personal interaction with the football legend.

Messi's itinerary also takes him to Ahmedabad and Mumbai for private events, masterclasses with young players, and more celebrations of his monumental journey.

This tour marks Messi's return to India after his 2011 appearance in Kolkata and promises to leave a lasting legacy, inspiring a new generation of Indian footballers through direct engagement with leaders and fans alike. The former Barcelona star came to Kolkata fourteen years ago in a friendly for Argentina against Venezuela, which they won 1-0.
