Lionel Messi to MLS possible? Transfer agent opens up on 'special project' luring World Cup winner to USA

Transfer agent Jerome Meary has opened up on 'special project' luring Lionel Messi to MLS where he could be offered a wonderful project

Famous transfer agent Jerome Meary has opened up on Lionel Messi potentially leaving Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the end of the season in favour of a move to the Major League Soccer (MLS). The Argentine superstar has his contract at the Parc des Princes expiring this summer and quite naturally, his future is very much up in the air.

Lionel Messi joined Les Parisiens on a free transfer ahead of the 2021-22 season after his deal with Barcelona expired. PSG are said to be desperate to tie the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner down with a new deal and have been in talks regarding an extension. However, negotiations have not progressed well between the two parties suggesting that the 35-year-old forward could be on a move away from the club.

There have been multiple reports regarding Messi's possible destination and the Major League Soccer has been touted as a possible destination for the Argentine superstar. Meary has now claimed that there's a chance that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner could move to the United States.

The agent said that the league is offering Messi an enticing package. He said: "There's a 10-20 per cent chance of him (Lionel Messi) coming to MLS because they're really offering him a pretty special project.

Meary has even claimed that Messi would be offered the chance to own an MLS club in the future, as David Beckham was given when he joined LA Galaxy in 2007, saying: "Beckham, they managed to bring him in by offering him the possibility of becoming the owner of an MLS franchise. And so, they are going to offer Messi (the opportunity) to become the owner of a potential MLS franchise."

Messi has enjoyed himself in PSG colours this season after a disappointing debut season at the French capital club by his usual standards. The forward has scored 18 goals and provided 17 assists in 32 games for the Parisian giants so far this season

However, Messi was subject to booing from the fans on Sunday, 19th March as PSG lost 2-0 aginst Rennes. As a result of PSG's elimination from the round of 16 of the Champions League, Messi and his teammates have been targeted by the fans. The situation could further lead to Messi deciding to part ways with the Ligue 1 champions.
