Lionel Messi to Serie A? FC Como president makes sensational claim after Argentine's visit with Fabregas

By MyKhel Staff

The football world was abuzz recently after Lionel Messi was seen in Como, Italy, with his wife Antonela Roccuzzo attending a preseason friendly featuring Como 1907.

With Messi's current contract at Inter Miami set to expire at the end of 2025, speculation surged over a potential and sensational move to Serie A.

The speculation intensified after Antonela and the couple's children were spotted watching Como face French side Lille, prompting widespread chatter about a possible connection between the Argentine star and the recently promoted Serie A club. Como's head coach Cesc Fàbregas, a former teammate and long-time friend of Messi, addressed the situation.

"Never say never," Fàbregas told reporters. "Antonela was here over at my house on vacation for a week with us because Leo was going to be a week away playing in Cincinnati and in New York. They took the opportunity to take a trip and see friends. We are very close friends, our wives are very good friends, our children are of similar ages."

But Como president Mirwan Suwarso has weighed in to provide clarity and manage expectations.

"It would be a dream for him to come here, but why would he leave behind all the money he is earning now? Besides, we have not had any contact with him," Suwarso told the media.

He further emphasized the club's position, labeling the rumors as unfounded. The Italian club has taken steps forward in recent times, but as per Suwarso, signing Messi is beyond their dream.

"Not even a dream. The Messi family were guests of Fàbregas and his wife," he further added.

Como 1907 has been on an upward trajectory, climbing from financial ruin to a return to Italy's top flight, backed by ambitious ownership and strategic leadership. With Fabregas at the helm, they have already roped in a few top talents, but Messi, for now, remains only a dream.
