Indian football fans are in for a historic year, as Lionel Messi, the legendary Argentine footballer and global icon, is set to visit India in December 2025.

As per a report by Zee 24 Ghanta, Messi will be felicitated at Kolkata's iconic Eden Gardens, with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expected to attend the ceremony. MP of Diamond Harbour along with Trinamool Congress Youth President, Abhishek Banerjee may also join the event.

During his stay in Kolkata, Messi will conduct a football workshop for children and launch a football clinic. A seven-a-side tournament named the "GOAT Cup" will also be organized in his honour at Eden Gardens.

In Delhi, Messi is likely to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and could visit either the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium or the Feroz Shah Kotla ground. Meanwhile, Mumbai will host the star at Brabourne Stadium for a special event, where a meeting with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar is on the cards. Similar to Kolkata, both Delhi and Mumbai will feature workshops and youth engagement sessions focused on grassroots football.

This won't be Messi's first visit to India. Back in September 2011, a 24-year-old Messi led Argentina as captain for the first time in a friendly against Venezuela at Kolkata's Salt Lake Stadium. Argentina won that match 1-0, marking a memorable night for Indian football enthusiasts.

Adding to the excitement, Argentina is also scheduled to play an international friendly match in Kerala this October, with Messi expected to lead the side. Though the opponent and exact venue are yet to be officially confirmed, the match will mark a significant moment for Indian football as it hosts the reigning world champions once again.

With two major Messi moments on the horizon, Indian fans are eagerly awaiting a football-filled few months like never before.
