The Argentine maestro, a free agent after his Paris Saint-Germain contract expiration, had the footballing world at his feet. At first, he was approached by his former side Barcelona. However, La Liga's financial fair play rules thwarted the homecoming bid.

Following that Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, entered the fray with an astronomical offer, a move that raised eyebrows across the globe. But Lionel Messi set the football world abuzz by snubbing a jaw-dropping €1.5 billion offer from the Saudi Pro League giants.

The 36-year-old World Cup winner opted for an unexpected twist, turning down the riches of Saudi Arabia to embark on a new adventure in the sunny climes of Florida with David Beckham's Inter Miami instead. The move raised several questions however Messi explained about the decision.

Messi himself clarified the decision was not solely driven by the allure of wealth but by a desire to prioritize his family and seek a more conducive environment. "I made the decision that I'm going to go to Miami," he said in an interview with Mundo Deportivo and Sport newspapers.

"I still haven't closed it 100%. I'm still missing a few things, but we decided to go ahead. If Barcelona didn't work out, I wanted to leave Europe, get out of the spotlight and think more about my family."
