Lionel Messi's impact on Major League Soccer (MLS) has been since joining Inter Miami in July 2023, but the player may leave USA football soon.
His presence has transformed the team, which was previously struggling in the Eastern Conference. Despite not making it to the playoffs in his first season, Messi helped secure Miami's first trophy.

But as per reports, Messi has been willing a move away from Miami as he looks to end his career in South America. Despite offers from many Argentine clubs, Messi has eyes set on one particular club.
Messi's time in the MLS may be limited, as he reportedly plans to return to his native Argentina after his contract ends in December 2025. The former Barcelona star is expected to join Newell's Old Boys, a club where he spent five years during his youth from 1995 to 2000. This decision comes from his long-standing desire to play for his boyhood club.
In a 2016 interview with El Planeta Urbano, Messi expressed his wish to return to Argentina and play for Newell's Old Boys. He stated, "If I go back to Argentina tomorrow, which I would love, the club I would play for would be Newell's."
However, he later expressed some reservations about moving back due to concerns about safety and security in Argentina. Messi has voiced concerns regarding the safety of living conditions in Argentina. In an interview with TyC Sports, he shared that while playing for Newell's remains a dream, uncertainties about the country's current state make him hesitant. He prioritises his family's well-being and wants them to grow up in a safe environment.
But it may not stop him from wearing the Newell's Old Boys' colours again. The 37-year-old started with the academies at the Argentine club before travelling to La Masia Academy in Barcelona.
