Liverpool Overcomes Early Setback To Claim 3-1 Victory Against AC Milan In Champions League

Liverpool celebrated their return to the Champions League with a convincing 3-1 win over AC Milan. After conceding an early goal, the Reds rallied with goals from Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Dominik Szoboszlai to secure the victory.

Liverpool marked their return to the Champions League with a 3-1 win over AC Milan at San Siro. Despite a rough beginning, they secured a comfortable victory. Christian Pulisic capitalised on Liverpool's defensive lapse to score in the third minute for Milan. However, Liverpool quickly regrouped and turned the game around.

Ibrahima Konate levelled the score in the 23rd minute by heading in Trent Alexander-Arnold's free kick. Virgil van Dijk then put Liverpool ahead before halftime, nodding home from Kostas Tsimikas' corner. Dominik Szoboszlai sealed the win in the 67th minute, scoring from Cody Gakpo's cross after Milan lost possession.

Liverpool Wins 3-1 Against AC Milan

This match was significant for Van Dijk, who became only the third Dutch player to score on his 50th Champions League appearance. He joined Ruud van Nistelrooy and Roy Makaay in achieving this feat. The victory was also notable as it was Arne Slot's first Champions League game managing Liverpool.

Liverpool's defensive prowess was evident as both Konate and Van Dijk scored, marking the first time two defenders netted for them in a single Champions League match. This performance contributed to Liverpool's fifth win in their last six away games against Italian teams across all competitions.

Alexander-Arnold's assist for Konate's equaliser was his 80th for Liverpool. Since his debut in October 2016, only Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah have provided more assists among Premier League players across all competitions.

The Reds' recent form against Italian sides has been impressive, having won five of their last six encounters away from home. This is a stark improvement from their earlier record of just three wins in their first 14 visits to Italy.

Liverpool's triumph over AC Milan was a strong response following their unexpected loss to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. The team's ability to bounce back showcased their resilience and determination on the European stage.
