Liverpool Triumphs Over Tottenham With 4-0 Victory In EFL Cup Semi-Final

Liverpool showcased their strength with a convincing 4-0 win against Tottenham in the EFL Cup semi-final. Goals from Gakpo, Salah, Szoboszlai, and Van Dijk secured their place in the final against Newcastle United on March 16.

Liverpool secured their place in the EFL Cup final with a commanding 4-0 victory over Tottenham at Anfield. Despite carrying a 1-0 lead from the first leg, Spurs were overwhelmed by Liverpool's relentless attack. The Reds will now face Newcastle United in the final on March 16, aiming to defend their title at Wembley.

From the outset, Liverpool dominated the match, creating chances worth 3.8 expected goals (xG). Cody Gakpo opened the scoring in the 34th minute with a precise finish from Mohamed Salah's cross. Salah then converted a penalty early in the second half after Darwin Nunez was fouled by Tottenham's goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.

Liverpool Advances to EFL Cup Final

Dominik Szoboszlai added to Liverpool's tally after combining with Conor Bradley for a close-range goal. Virgil van Dijk sealed the win by heading in from Alexis Mac Allister's corner. Tottenham struggled throughout, managing only 0.2 xG and failing to register a shot on target.

Salah played a pivotal role, assisting Gakpo for his first EFL Cup assist since October 2014. This marked Salah's tenth assist for Gakpo, making him one of three players Salah has assisted ten or more times at Liverpool, alongside Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Salah also scored his eighth penalty of the season across all competitions, surpassing any Liverpool player since Steven Gerrard in 2013-14. His contributions have been crucial as Liverpool aim for their record-extending 15th EFL Cup final appearance under Arne Slot’s management.

Virgil van Dijk’s goal further highlighted his prowess as he now holds the record for most goals by a Premier League defender since joining Liverpool in January 2018. His towering presence was instrumental in securing Liverpool’s comprehensive victory over Spurs.

Liverpool’s journey to Wembley is marked by strong performances and strategic play. As they prepare to face Newcastle United, they aim to continue their successful run and secure another trophy under Arne Slot’s leadership.
